VMLY&R has an opening for a Proofreader superstar to join our team. Responsibilities include proofreading copy to check for spelling, grammar, punctuation and word usage, style and consistency, overall copy flow and tone, and accuracy of content and querying as necessary; reviewing the arrangement of text, images and design elements to check for the inclusion of special elements, including branding, trademarks, legalese, copyright, logos and client-specific requirements, common and uncommon errors including dropped text, transposed captions, double spaces, etc., and overall presentation.

Required Skills

• Thorough working knowledge of the procedures, symbols and conventions of professional proofreading
• Thorough understanding of the rules governing the grammar and usage of the English language as well as a familiarity with standard reference texts
• Excellent written English language skills including spelling and grammar
• Superior attention to detail is a must as well as excellent organizational skills
• Ability to proactively manage simultaneous projects while working in a fast-paced environment
• Strong knowledge of AP style

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or English or relevant experience is necessary
• Three to five years of editing and proofreading experience, preferably in an agency environment
• Technical writing/editing experience is a plus

The base salary for this position at the time of this posting may range from $35,000 to $75,000. Individual compensation varies based on job-related factors, including location, business needs, level of responsibility, experience, and qualifications.
